It’s easy to make a formula for an infant but if you are doing it for the first time some things must be looked upon before you feed the baby or it can lead him to health hazards.
Preparing Water for Formula
Before you make a formula make sure that the water you are using is filtered water with no impurities and the safest way to be sure about it is boiling water again.
For that, take water in an electric kettle or use a stove to heat water till it starts boiling. Boiled water can be frozen and used within 24 hours if you want to.
After boiling water let it cool down to room temperature it might take 30 mins to cool down. You can save it in the freezer or prepare it to give to the infant.
Formula Powder Instructions
The first and most important thing to be checked by you is the Expiry date mentioned on the box.
Read the instructions on the formula carefully and how much amount of powder and water to be used is written. To get an accurate amount of it use the scoop given in the box or any spoon for measurement. (Remember never press the powder in the scoop)
Now take the water that you prepare and measure it in the now poured pot of powder Seal the bottle cap it and shake it well. Now replace the disk with a teat.
Now before feeding the formula to the baby check the formula by pouring it over the sensitive side of the skin if it feels too hot don’t feed it may harm the baby but if it just feels warm you are ready to feed it to the child.
Make the formula in small amounts first just in case if baby doesn’t finish it all so you don’t have to throw it away. If the infant finishes it all so well and well but if not throw it away and sterilize the bottle. The formula must be used within 1 hour.
How to Prepare Formula in Advance
Make the formula in advance so it must be stored and protected for this purpose you have to make the formula and place it under -5 degrees Celsius and in the fridge place it in the back so it remains cold.
If you are traveling and a pre-made formula isn’t an option for you then you can use a ready-to-use formula
Remember to throw the formula away after 1hr if it is at room temperature
Warming Infant Formula
Young babies like the formula a little warmer than normal and for this purpose you can place the bottle in warm water and when it’s moderately warm you can feed it to the baby.
Alternatively, you can use a bottle warmer and it is the best option to go with as it has a thermostat with it so it will trip on specific temperatures.
Remember don't place the bottle in a bottle warmer for more than 10 mins it may increase the risk of bacterial growth inside the formula. Always check the formula before feeding it to the baby by pouring some of it on your hands.
